Photo credit: http://alabamareproductiverightsadvocates.com/arra-sex-ed-brochure/ First I would like to thank Cindi Cassis Branham and Julia Perry for joining our Meetup. Here’s our comprehensive sex education page @https://alabamasolutions.weebly.com/solutions/comprehensive-sex-education . There’s still a list of people we’ll need to have a meeting with in order to distribute more sex ed brochures: UAH Admin, public school librarians, nurses, and the boards of education, Boys & Girls Club, Recreational Centers, Girls Ink.. The end goal is to make sure that everyone has easier access to comprehensive sex education to prevent STI’s, STD’s etc, abortions by unwanted pregnancies and to help with awareness for reproductive health and wellness and planned pregnancies. Cindi has contacted the 2 South Huntsville Public Library Branches and both have accepted ARRA’s Sex Ed Brochures! Awesome! Thank you Cindi! Amanda Reyes, President of The Yellowhammer Fund @https://yellowhammerfund.org/ and on FB @https://www.facebook.com/YellowFund/ had this to say, “We just started our funding line, and we've been intensely busy trying to make sure our volunteers can run it on their own. One of the projects Yellowhammer Fund would like to work on with others around the state, however, is state legislation to give youth access to comprehensive, medically accurate sex education. There are several national organizations that we have alliances with that have money and supporter resources that could help us build a grassroots campaign around the policy. But we NEED a legislator to propose and support it, and we MUST have Republicans come across the aisle.” Pamela J. Willis says this about the Linda D. Foundation “It is the non-profit arm of ARRA. Linda D Foundation is based in Huntsville, AL & is volunteer run. 100% of donations goes to help Alabama women with birth control, morning after pills, sex ed for teens & abortion costs. There is a donate button on the website. If you prefer to send a check, you can send a FB message or an email & we will give you a mailing address.” https://www.facebook.com/AlabamaReproductiveRightsAdvocates/ http://alabamareproductiverightsadvocates.com/thelindadfoundation/ Thank you again for your support! Give these groups a like and share their page if you support what they do! I am so grateful to the people in this group who are working together to make a difference. Thank you. First, a big thank you to our members who were able to attend the Meetup, Debbie Lowe Mitchell, Gabrielle Harris, Tom Maples, and Barbara Sweeney Bryan! As well as Tom’s guest Dan Higgins. So everyone had their input as to how to better implement the living wages with and without the government’s involvement. Tom had to say that simply asking the question of “why not?” can help keep it in our day to day conversation and make a big difference. “ An embarrassment to society” that our working citizens have to deal with. Asking the question about living wages with a fresh perspective and not being forceful about it will help broaden other people’s views. It has to be a moral issue as well as a spiritual one. Has to be voluntary and a guaranteed income can definitely help boost the economy. Barbara believes that voting in candidates who can better enable a living wage for the working class, will help to give that push. She mentioned that Doug Jones has his priorities set on making it better for workers to receive a decent paycheck then in turn will boost the economy. She is currently working on sending us info on which companies local and corporate that already gives their workers a living wage. I will update you on that shortly. Gabrielle is working on a script to send directly to the CEO’s of these companies who have issues with understanding their workers and decent pay. We will have Meetups with any manager who would like to learn more to help them understand us as a people who have a life outside of work. She also believes that financial education for all working people is key to understanding and having better clarity and confidence to know how much each person will need. Also, educating all business owners on the win~win situation so to motivate them to make living wages a reality for our community and society. Dan Higgins, owner of Higgins Tree Services understands, as a business owner, the benefits of making sure his workers are paid a good wage. He is one of the handful of Alabama businesses that’s already started on this moral movement. THANK YOU DAN! He mentioned the Living Wage documentary that everyone should watch. Check it out here >>>https://www.alivingwagefilm.com/ . You can check out how much the average American CEO makes here >>> http://www.epi.org/publication/ceo-.... Debbie believes that it's going to work best with voluntary implementation & grassroots pushing it legislatively. It would also help to get new blood (preferably progressive) people in office to be able to get better wage legislation. I agree with all of them, and I’m so so proud of every one of these members for their input and conscience in the matter. I believe in trying things that is best for the individual, whether you’ll need $10.5o or $20, or however much you’ll need in order to truly make a living, that is something that should be said on your resume, or cover letter, and even in your interview. To give you even more confidence and in building trust try Money Charting so you’ll know how much you’ll need to get started. Here’s the post on the how to here >>> http://alabamasolutions.weebly.com/... . We need to start being more confident and respectful to ourselves when it comes to financial issues. We are not just something to be used, to be pushed around and be fine with it, to be told excuse after excuse of why we don’t deserve a wage in order to live. WE DESERVE TO HAVE LIVING WAGES. To work overtime and then develop health issues because of it just to receive a paycheck that BARELY pays the bills or doesn’t even come close is a form of punishment. It really is, I mean what more can you really call it? We have an actual brain function called the punishment and reward system that motivates when given a reward and de-motivates when given a punishment. What are we doing to workers when we keep them poor? In the long run, I have a feeling that it’s not good, but we can reverse this tragedy if we stop and think and see people as people. People who help businesses grow and keep their head above water, why can’t they deserve to live their life without the financial burden? Why would they want to give that to anyone of their workers in the first place? Do they not know or do they just not care? So I’m urging everyone to keep believing in people, in doing what’s right, in shutting off bullsh*t propaganda that hurts people. Come back to your senses believe in the truth, facts, research and reports that unanimously says Living Wages are necessary for a successful, happy, healthy and rich society. Thank you Debbie Lowe Mitchell for attending and your invaluable input! This month’s meetup is about how to prepare and prevent a domestic terrorist attack(s). Following the skewed story of the Las Vegas attack, one thing we can agree on is that most citizens are not prepared on what to do in case there is one. DO NOT RUN, you’ll be an easy target to a person who does not care about you or anyone that you love. When there is a shooter, unless that person is running after you, STAY DOWN, army crawl to a concrete or metal like barrier to protect yourself if you can find one. STAY THERE until help arrives. Here’s a video that I found that can help in case you were stabbed or shot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0D9VZjISYTM Please post more in the comment section below that is relevant to surviving an attack. What is domestic terrorism? According to free dictionary “ Domestic terrorism or homegrown terrorism is commonly associated with violent acts committedby citizens or permanent residents of a state against their own people or property within that statewithout foreign influence in an effort to instill fear on a population or government as a tactic designedto advance political, religious, or ideological objectives.[1]” According to evidence in the US, we are likely to see domestic terrorism (including from government officials and employees such cops) because of lack of support in community health, gun safety education, and preparation as well as more guns more gun violence. Check out a great site with all the info that you'll need to learn about smart gun laws. http://smartgunlaws.org/ Now, maybe we have more guns because we don’t trust our government. Completely understandable. Should we keep our right to bear arms? Yes, I believe so. But should we filter out who will be able to have them in order to have a formal effective militia against a tyrannical goverment? Absolutely, yes in my humble opinion. I’ve personally talked to gun owners and they ALL have agreed, psychopaths should not have the right to bear arms. In a perfect America, I believe that everyone should at least own at least one gun. Many people can disagree with me, but unfortunately we don’t live in a perfect world. We live in a world where people lose their shit, they’re enraged, they’re painfully uncoping and I believe that it's then that makes them the most vulnerable to act on immense harm to the people around them. Debbie's input: Miss Debbie explained how she taught her children early on practicing gun safety.
Other things we've talked about is the benefits of CBD oil. Here is a great site that has to do with backed research of cbd oil https://www.cbdglobal.org/conditions And here's where you can get it legally http://cbdgum.networkofhemp.com/ Remember our Meetups are every FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH at Beignet Cafe from 12pm to 2pm. RSVP on Meetup or Facebook. Signed, Cortney & Debbie Problem Solve > Invest > Restore
