Hey all! Even though I wasn't planning on writing any notes, I've decided to take the time to talk about what I've highlighted before our cancelled Meetup.
I've added Still Serving Veterans to our charities list. Here's what I've written down while talking to the Chief Operator Officer of the charity, Bill Koch. - They serve any veteran - They help with employment, coaching, resumes, and guidance on job searches. - They help with VA benefits, file claims, and educate on VA benefits. - They'll help with resource connections and bills, clothes and etc. - They never charge for services Check them out here https://ssv.org/
I've also talked to one of the volunteers for Therapy Partners. They are also a 501(c)3 and they focus on "enhancing lives in our community." - They use animal - assisted therapy - They use their services for at risk children, veterans, elders, abused women & children, terminally ill adults & children, and teens & adults in rehab. Check them out here. https://www.therapypartners.org/ Thinking about also adding them to our charities list. Comment yes! if you agree.
As a not for profit, we give 100% to our choice charities. It is not a nonprofit, which means any contributions made through our Meetup is not tax deductible. But you are absolutely welcomed to make contributions yourself to our choice charities you'll be able to see here> https://www.meetup.com/Alabama-Solu... .
Living Wages If you'd also like to send CEO's the research on how to properly implement living wages you can send them the research seen here > http://www.epi.org/publication/bp17... as well as the living wage calculator seen here> http://alabamasolutions.weebly.com/... for Alabama.
Free2Be While I dropped off the sex ed brochures and condoms for Free2Be, they gave me brochures about ending violence. Any victim of violence can receive free mental health counseling by real certified and trained counselors. See more here > http://free2be.org/free2be-safe .
Thank you for being a part of the movement! As always please invite your progressive friends and family members. We will have Meetups every first Saturday of every month. Thanks again. "Move Up."
