Thank you all who were able to join! Our Meetup is every first Saturday at Beignet Cafe 12pm to 2pm. Today we learned about Money Charting and how to organize our finances for clarity and prosperity. Inspired by David Bach's book "The Automatic Millionaire." To teach yourself and loved ones, see it here: http://alabamasolutions.weebly.com/... We talked about classism in our economic system and the lack of equity for our workers and students See here for solutions on living wages : http://alabamasolutions.weebly.com/... And here for public education: http://alabamasolutions.weebly.com/... Money is not comprised of how good you are or how hard you work. It's based on what kind of employers you're working for and what kind of person you are. Will you allow yourself to work for people that will work you over time without breaks and still can’t make a decent living or will you find something better? You can choose that for yourself. Check out our Plan B to Living Wages http://alabamasolutions.weebly.com/... We talked about the importance of healthy living. You can see our solutions on that here: http://alabamasolutions.weebly.com/... Let me know if you have anymore to add. Thank you so much for being a member. Hope to see you at our next Meetup on October 7th. Happy Labor Day Weekend! "Without the root, you'll have no fruit." Problem Solve > Invest > Restore

Alabama Solutions (AL Sol) 2nd MeetUp CORTNEY BROWN·SATURDAY, JULY 15, 2017 Thank you to Barbara Sweeney Bryan and Gabrielle Harris for attending our meeting! Also thank you to Morgan Sloan and the Lumberyard for allowing us to have our meeting at the Kiln with great food and champagne! So I’ve got about 3 pages written that I’ll try to keep short on this note. AL Veterans Support: One of our members mentioned that we need to add a good group and or charity for our local veterans to get the care and support that they need. There’s a great charity called Wounded Warriors Family Support, seen here >> http://www.wwfs.org/ that I believe we can ask to give the money to Alabama Veterans on our behalf. I will update you on that later, whenever I get a response back. Sex Ed Brochures: We talked about various locations to take these, and we celebrated them being at the Huntsville-Madison Library and at Lowe Mill WOHOO! For those who are getting involved by sending these to locations that’ll accept them, to receive the brochures, message @ https://www.facebook.com/Linda-D-Fo... and they will mail it directly to you for free and let us know who’ve you contacted and where you’ll be sending them to so we won’t be contacting people twice. Locations that haven’t been contacted yet: UAH and A&M Library, all public libraries besides the Huntsville-Madison, the YMCA, Free2Be, Boys & Girls Club. Living Wages: Share this with all the people that you love living in Alabama, especially people in college and high school to show them how much they need to make in order to survive. Here’s the Living Wage Calculator for the entire state of Alabama >> http://alabamasolutions.weebly.com/... If people don’t know, then how do we give them the chance to do better? The rest is up to them. Saving Alabama people from drunk drivers: We discussed to contact MADD Mothers Against Drunk Drivers to see if they could promote UBER. After visiting their site I noticed that it’s actually their official designated driver app. Sign the pledge here>> http://www.madd.org/drunk-driving/p... And if you or anyone else you know has a drinking problem let them know that there’s help. As a former alcoholic, I’ve taken 10mg of Lithium Orotate to reduce cravings and the non stop drinking of alcohol. Ask your trusted MD if Lithium Orotate is right for you. Here’s the research on it for alcoholism >> https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed... Voting Terminology: We need to define what each word means that the normal person would find hard to translate. I know the Green Party of Alabama is doing this. So let me know if you could contact them in seeing if they’re doing this in our upcoming elections. Also we need to let voters know to not vote for something that they cannot comprehend and that it’s okay to leave them blank. Study Sheet: Share this study sheet for EVERY Alabama Student. Whether they’re in college, high school or middle school. Taking breaks for your mind, such as studying for 20 mins and taking a break for 5 helps combat the anxiety and helps with memorization, concentration, and academic scores. Here’s the printer friendly guide seen here >> http://www.uc.edu/content/dam/uc/fy... . To learn more about how you could help Alabama Students check out our blog here >> http://alabamasolutions.weebly.com/... Bring the lottery to Alabama: This helps the state and our students education. The reason why more people don’t want it here is because they are fearful of the issues that gambling causes. Which is a very real fear if there is no help. Luckily there is. If the conversation ever comes up, let them know that there is help specifically for gamblers, the success from support groups and from mental health professionals here in Alabama. The point is to make them feel their fear and argument is irrational *respectfully though. Remember, this maybe a real tragic occurrence that happened in their lives, so be respectful and be open minded if you want to help change minds. Problems with Law Enforcement: Now this one’s a touchy one for some people but frankly, if we can’t be honest with ourselves and have honest pride in our country then where do you think we’re headed? Quotas exist. They exist in our state, they exist in our town and they are damn wrong to be in ANY kind of justice system. They may disguise the word with something else but the terminology is the same. False arrests and false ticketing to meet their quota. If they don’t meet their quota then they get fired. Which means they are firing good cops, fining, jailing, and imprisoning decent people who are a victim to this. If you know a cop fired for this, uplift them, tell them thank you and if you have the money and care please consider taking care of a victim’s bail bond if they’re not able to afford it. Mandatory Mental Health Evaluations for Public Workers such as policemen and women: I’m leaving this open to anyone who has a solution to make this happen. Get out the local vote: Check out our local AL choices here >>http://alabamasolutions.weebly.com/... If you know anymore, please let us know in the comment section. Funeral Services: This is for those who need help with funeral services. One member mentioned that the Catholic church offers free services even if you’re not a member. I’m so grateful to our AL Sol volunteers! Again let us know what you could do to help! I look forward to our next meeting at Pane E Vino on Church St. in Huntsville Saturday August 5th! Thank you to Emily, Roz, and Jamie for coming to our 1st meeting! Thank you for your incredible input and your wonderful energy! Thank you again to Beignet Cafe for letting us host our first meetup at your wonderful cafe! The food was delicious! "Alabama Solutions 1st Meet Up CORTNEY BROWN·SATURDAY, JUNE 3, 201736 Reads We had touched on many important issues we face in Alabama and our goal is to step up and lead when our government has failed to. One of the first topics was living wages. Our first solution to making living wages possible is to educate business owners, local and corporate, on what it is in each pertaining county. I have printed out the living wage calculator for the Madison county area seen here> http://livingwage.mit.edu/counties/01089 and have already started to pass these out to Madison County business owners. Let it be their conscience decision. You can choose your own county or metropolis area and do the same. Comprehensive Sex Education Because Alabama is abstinence only on sex education, Alabama Reproductive Rights Advocates has created Sex Ed pamphlets to educate and inform where to get tested and receive birth control seen here > http://alabamareproductiverightsadvocates.com/arra-sex-ed-brochure/ we are calling public and college campus libraries to see if we can drop these pamphlets off to inform students and responsible parents for their teens. It seems the Madison County library has accepted them on the 2nd floor after talking to their admin. She hasn't yet called me back to return the pamphlets, which is good news. But I will still double check with her. Education We have discussed "meeting people where they are". Such as translating laws into layman's terms so voters can better understand them. We discussed teaching the ones closest to you about trade schools in much needed jobs in order for them to get a middle to upper middle class wage and not suffer so much under higher education debt, for example Mike Rowe WORKS is a foundation that helps fund trade schools for students in order for better job creation seen here http://profoundlydisconnected.com/foundation/ Also contact your representatives and tell them we want more affordable or free higher education. Like what our sister state TN has done here> https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/money/2017/05/11/pf/college/tennessee-free-community-college/index.html Healthcare Live Well Alabama and Alabama Extension Coalition is doing a great job educating others on preventive care such as eating right and exercising and caring about the environment. An issue we face is healthcare costs and cuts. So what can we do besides creating a Go Fund Me? Some health businesses create a sliding scale on their prices to cater to each person's financial needs. Calling health clinics in your area and seeing if this is a possibility or something they can create is a start. Bartering is also an option if you have a needed skill. And yes, certain practitioners are down for bartering with people. Sometimes all you have to do is ask. And of course, calling or writing your local representatives to make healthcare more affordable is always a go. The more we push and lead, the more they are forced to listen and follow. Donations Starting local to reputable charities is something we are also looking to do. Charities like Donor's Choose can let you choose which classroom to support in our local area seen here https://www.donorschoose.org/donors/search.html?state=AL . This is our first meeting so we will be able to discuss more on how to revert to Solutions for our state. Click to join if you're definitely interested in helping us solve issues https://m.facebook.com/groups/319502195109838?message_id=391233214603402¬if_t=feedback_reaction_generic¬if_id=1491290784313219&ref=m_notif And let me know if you have any questions. We will have our meetings every first Saturday of every month. Thank you for being apart of our Grassroots Movement!" Problem Solve > Invest > Restore
